16th Judicial District Attorney M. Michael Haik, III announces:
Tyron Chevalier, 26, of New Iberia, previously pled guilty to manslaughter on May 19, 2025.
Chevalier’s conviction comes from the homicide of Quantravious Alexis on August 9, 2020. On that day, Chevalier and Alexis got in a fist fight. Although the fight had broken up, Chevalier got a handgun from a friend, came back and shot Alexis twice. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency room personnel, Alexis died as a result of his wounds.
At the time of the homicide, Chevalier had pending charges and was out on bond for another shooting. Chevalier fled to Texas and was apprehended by the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
A sentencing hearing was held before Judge Keith R.J. Comeaux on August 6, 2025. Alexis’ mother testified at the hearing, as did lead detective Alexander Breaux of the New Iberia Police Department.
Judge Comeaux sentenced the defendant to thirty years at hard labor. Manslaughter carries a maximum penalty of up to forty years at hard labor.
This case was prosecuted by Ashley Hammons and was investigated by the New Iberia Police Department with assistance from the Acadiana Criminalistics Laboratory and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
