St. Martinville, Louisiana: 16th Judicial District Attorney, Bo Duhe' announced Leslie A. Migues (D.O.B. 10-11-1978) was sentenced to 25 years at hard labor for Vehicular Homicide in connection to a deadly DWI crash. Five of those years must be served without the benefit of probation or parole.
On April 2, 2017, Louisiana State Police were notified of a critical injury crash in the westbound lane of I-10 in St. Martin Parish. The crash occurred on an elevated portion of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. The defendant drove in the wrong direction on I-10 for approximately nine miles prior to striking another vehicle head-on. Migues then struck another vehicle, resulting in a 3-car collision. 25-year old Amanda Ceruti of St. Petersburg, Florida, suffered life threatening injuries and later died at a nearby hospital as a result of the crash. Leslie Migues' blood alcohol concentration level was .184, over twice the legal limit.
Evidence of Migues' criminal history was presented before Judge Lori A. Landry at a sentencing hearing on December 18, 2018, which included 3 prior DWI convictions dating back to 2007. The maximum penalty for Vehiclular Homicide in Louisiana is 30 years at hard labor.
"The sentence imposed by Judge Landry reflects the seriousness of this tragic event. This case should serve as a reminder that driving while impaired comes with a cost." Duhe' said.
