A sentencing hearing was held on April 16, 2025, before the Honorable Suzanne DeMahy on defendant, Kieon Alexander, who was convicted unanimously on November 17, 2023, by a St. Martin parish jury for manslaughter.
After a sentencing hearing and argument of counsel, the defendant was sentenced to serve forty (40) years at hard labor with the Department of Corrections with the first twenty (20) years without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence for the killing of Miguel Edmond.
This case involved the defendant, Kieon Alexander, and Co-defendant, Cordell Batiste, planning to rob Miguel Edmond on November 10, 2016. However, at some point during the intended robbery, Kieon ALexander shot Miguel Edmond twice in the back, killing him. Officers with the Breaux Bridge Police Department were able to locate and interview several witnesses, as well as locate shell casings and other physical evidence, which placed Kieon Alexander with the gun, pulling the trigger, and at the scene of the crime.
Assistant District Attorney Renee Louviere prosecuted the case with the assistance from Jonathan Songy. The case was investigated by the Breaux Bridge Police Department with assistance from the Acadiana Criminalistics Laboratory, and we want to commend them for their thorough and exhaustive investigation.
