The District Attorney's Office has developed a unique Senior Citizen Services Program that serves as a model for other jurisdictions. Our mission is to prevent harm to Senior Citizens and to protect their quality of life by Empowerment through Education, Information, Outreach and Advocacy. Senior Citizen Services include:

  • Annual 3 parish Educational Seminar of Legal Rights, Safety and other important topics to Senior Citizens
  • Visitation by Senior Citizens Coordinators to Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities and other places where Senior Citizens are present
  • Collaboration with Senior Citizen Organizations such as AARP, H2U, SMILE, Parish Councils on Aging and the District Attorney's Neighborhood Watch Program

Elderly Protective Division

The mission of the Elderly Services Division of the District Attorney's Office is to protect vulnerable citizens, the disabled and persons age 60 years or older, from physical and emotional abuse, neglect and financial exploitation. This pro-active protection includes:

  • Assignment of an Assistant District Attorney as a liaison to Law Enforcement and the Lafayette Region of the Elderly Protective Services Division of the Louisiana Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs
  • Representation on the Louisiana Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs Taskforce on the Exploitation of the Elderly
  • Presentations at local, regional and statewide meetings on topics such as legislation, protection and legal tools applicable to elder citizens
  • Creation of a special protocol to train banks and financial institutions to report abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of the elderly
  • Collaboration with legislators to sponsor legislation to protect the elderly.
